Yngwie Malmsteen’s playing style combines neoclassical technique with the raw energy of rock. The MXR Yngwie Malmsteen Overdrive is designed to highlight both elements during intense, fast playing.

Design and Functionality

Developed in collaboration with Yngwie Malmsteen, the circuit provides clarity, dynamic expression, and rich overtones. The pedal is specially adapted for fast arpeggios, expressive vibrato, and powerful riffs. Controls are simple — Level for volume and Gain for the amount of overdrive — with each adjustment having a clear impact on the sound.

Operation and Controls

A footswitch toggles the effect on and bypass, with a blue LED indicating when active. The pedal is powered by a 9-volt battery, AC adapter, or MXR Brick Series power supply.
