Gibson Firebird Platypus – Vintage Cherry

The Gibson Firebird Platypus pays tribute to the rare 1965 transitional models with its unique "Platypus" head and Non-Reverse design. Unlike the classic Reverse Firebird, it has a flat head with six-in-line tuners, providing straighter string pull and improved tuning stability.

Construction and design

The guitar features a solid mahogany body with a set-in neck that mimics the look of a traditional neck-through Reverse Firebird. The mahogany neck has a Slim Taper™ profile and rosewood fingerboard with 22 frets and acrylic trapezoid inlays. The Platypus-style headstock is fitted with Grover® Mini Rotomatic® tuners.

Electronics and hardware

Equipped with two historically accurate Firebird Mini Humbucker™ pickups with Alnico 5 magnets, delivering bell-like clarity in clean tones and strong rock/blues presence when driven. Individual volume and tone controls allow precise sound shaping. Pickguard features the iconic Firebird graphic. Hardware includes chrome-plated Aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge, Aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece, and Gold Top Hat knobs with silver reflectors.
