Gibson 1958 Mahogany Flying V Reissue – historic electric guitar with classic V-shape and warm mahogany tone
Overview and features
The Gibson Flying V was introduced in 1958 and was far ahead of its time. Although only 81 units were built that year, it later became a true icon, played by guitar legends such as Albert King and Billy Gibbons. The 1958 Mahogany Flying V Reissue is a faithful recreation by the Gibson Custom Shop, built with the same precision as the original but using mahogany for both body and neck for a warmer, fuller sound.
Construction and materials/components
The solid mahogany body features a string-through design with a lacquered brass chevron. The hide-glued mahogany neck has a rounded 1950s Medium C profile. The Indian rosewood fingerboard features 22 frets and pearloid dot inlays. This combination delivers a warm, resonant tone with strong midrange response, perfect for rock and blues players.
Electronics and sound
This model is equipped with two Custombucker humbuckers with Alnico 3 magnets. These unpotted pickups retain an open, vintage voice rich in overtones. The circuit includes two volume controls and one tone control with CTS 500K potentiometers and a “phone book” capacitor. The result is an organic, dynamic response that reacts naturally to your playing dynamics.
