SSL Bus Compressor Classic – 1U stereo bus compressor with VCA Drive and external sidechain

SSL Bus Comp Classic is a dedicated 1U stereo bus compressor based on the classic SSL Bus Compressor design. Built for mix bus, drum bus, stems and parallel compression, it combines the familiar SSL sound and workflow with expanded ratio, release and sidechain options.

High-performance THAT 2181 VCAs work together with SSL's sidechain architecture to deliver the punch, cohesion and dynamic control associated with classic SSL compression. Variable VCA Drive also allows the character to move from clean SuperAnalogue transparency to more harmonically rich, 4K-inspired saturation with up to 10% THD.

Classic SSL bus compression

Bus Comp Classic is designed to provide the characteristic control, punch and mix glue associated with SSL compression. It works equally well for subtle stereo bus compression and more assertive processing on drums and instrument groups.

THAT 2181 VCAs

The compressor uses high-performance THAT 2181 VCAs together with SSL's proprietary sidechain design, providing fast and musical dynamic response with clearly controlled transients.

Variable VCA Drive

Variable VCA Drive allows the user to adjust the tonal character of the VCA stage, moving from transparent SuperAnalogue-style response to the richer saturation associated with classic 4000 Series and FX384 consoles.

Up to 10% THD

VCA Drive can be increased to as much as 10% THD for greater harmonic colour, density and saturation, allowing the unit to function as both a compressor and a creative tone-shaping processor.

Six-position stepped controls

Precision six-position stepped controls provide fast operation and repeatable recall, making it straightforward to recreate settings between sessions.

Expanded ratio and release options

Bus Comp Classic provides expanded ratio and release choices, including SSL Auto Release. This makes it suitable for anything from gentle 2:1 compression to more assertive dynamic processing.

Sidechain high-pass filter

An integrated six-position high-pass filter in the sidechain path reduces the influence of low-frequency energy on the compression detector, helping the compressor behave more consistently on full mixes and drum groups.

Stereo external sidechain

A genuine stereo external sidechain input allows compression to be controlled by an external stereo signal for more advanced dynamic and creative routing applications.
