Klowra Whorl Rotary – rotary speaker pedal with physical modelling and three cabinet models
Klowra Whorl Rotary is a compact digital rotary speaker pedal with physical modelling, three cabinet models, Fast/Slow switching, Brake and dynamic envelope behaviour. It is designed to recreate the three-dimensional movement and modulation of classic rotating speaker systems with greater realism than a conventional modulation effect.
By modelling both the high-frequency horn and the mass of the bass rotor, Whorl Rotary simulates Doppler shift, acceleration and mechanical inertia. The result suits everything from classic psychedelic and blues-style rotary sounds to more modern moving modulation textures.
Overview and features
Physical modelling of horn and rotor
Whorl Rotary uses physical modelling to simulate the behaviour of a real rotating speaker system. The model accounts for both the rotating high-frequency horn and the mass of the bass rotor, creating a more organic sense of acceleration, deceleration and movement.
This means the pedal models not only pitch modulation but also the mechanical response that forms an important part of classic rotary speaker sounds.
Three cabinet models
Three different cabinet models provide a choice of fundamental rotary characters, making the pedal suitable for vintage-inspired organ and guitar sounds as well as more modern modulation effects.
Fast and Slow with natural speed transitions
Fast/Slow switching recreates the classic behaviour of rotating speaker systems where the rotor speed changes gradually rather than instantly, producing more natural transitions between slow swirl and faster rotary modulation.
Brake for dramatic transitions
The Brake function slows the simulated rotor and can be used to create dramatic transitions or more static intermediate states. This also makes Whorl Rotary useful for experimental sounds and arrangements.
Dynamic envelope behaviour
The dynamic envelope response allows the modulation to react to picking dynamics and signal level, providing a more expressive and responsive effect than a completely static modulation curve.
External footswitch input
A dedicated external footswitch input provides additional control options and makes the pedal easier to integrate into larger live and pedalboard setups.
Ultra-compact format
Measuring just 51 x 92 x 38 mm, Whorl Rotary occupies very little pedalboard space. Despite its compact size, it combines physical modelling, three cabinet models, Fast/Slow switching, Brake and dynamic envelope behaviour.
