Gibson Hummingbird Special Satin Vintage Sunburst
A modern take on a classic
First introduced in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird is one of the most iconic acoustic guitars ever made. Handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, the Hummingbird Special captures the spirit of the original with a slimmer body, satin nitro finish, and premium tonewoods.
Construction and materials
The square-shouldered body is built from solid mahogany back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top reinforced by traditional scalloped X-bracing. This classic tonewood pairing delivers warm, balanced tone and excellent projection. The slightly thinner “concert depth” body offers enhanced comfort and a tighter bass response.
Neck and playability
The utile neck, joined with a compound dovetail and hot hide glue, features a comfortable round profile. Its rosewood fingerboard with 12" radius and pearloid parallelogram inlays offers a classic Gibson look and feel. It comes with 20 frets and a 24.75" scale length.
Electronics and hardware
Equipped with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze undersaddle pickup and soundhole-mounted volume control, the Hummingbird Special is stage- and studio-ready. A rosewood belly-up bridge with TUSQ saddle, Grover Rotomatic tuners, and a simplified Hummingbird pickguard complete the design. Includes a premium soft shell case.
