Gibson Hummingbird Special Satin Wine Red
A refined take on a timeless classic
First introduced in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird has become one of the most recognizable acoustic guitars in history. The Hummingbird Special Satin Wine Red, handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, captures the essence of the original with a slightly slimmer body and a smooth satin Wine Red finish.
Construction and materials
The square-shouldered body is made from solid mahogany back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top, supported by traditional scalloped X-bracing. This classic tonewood pairing produces a warm, balanced sound with excellent clarity. The thinner “concert depth” body enhances comfort and tightens the bass response.
Neck and playability
The utile neck, attached with a compound dovetail joint and hot hide glue, features a comfortable round profile. Its rosewood fingerboard has a 12" radius and pearloid parallelogram inlays – a defining visual of the Hummingbird. The 24.75" scale and 20 frets provide traditional Gibson playability.
Electronics and hardware
An L.R. Baggs Element Bronze undersaddle pickup with soundhole-mounted volume control ensures premium amplified tone. The rosewood belly-up bridge with TUSQ saddle, nickel Grover Rotomatic tuners, and simplified Hummingbird pickguard complete the design. Includes a premium soft shell case.
