The Gibson Pre-War SJ-200 Rosewood Light Aged pays homage to the rarest iteration of the “King of the Flat-Tops.” Before 1947, the SJ-200 was built with rosewood back and sides, making those early models exceptionally sought-after today. Gibson Custom and Murphy Lab now bring that heritage back to life with stunning accuracy and artistry.

Construction and materials

Featuring rosewood back and sides with a beautiful three-rope marquetry back strip, and a thermally aged red spruce top with red spruce scalloped X-bracing applied using hot hide glue, this instrument delivers warmth, power, and exceptional detail. The multi-ply binding and tortoise SJ-200 pickguard with multi-colored dots reflect true pre-war craftsmanship.

Neck and playability

The two-piece AAA maple neck with a walnut stringer and a D-shaped profile ensures both comfort and stability. The bound ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl graduated crown inlays provides elegance and precision. The 25.5" scale length contributes to excellent projection and tonal clarity.

Hardware and finishing

The ebony Four Bar Moustache™ bridge with mother-of-pearl bars, bone nut and saddle, and aged gold Grover Imperial tuners recreate the authentic 1930s aesthetic. The Murphy Lab Light Aged finish gives the guitar the lightly worn look and feel of a well-preserved vintage original. Delivered in a period-correct Pre-War Red Line hardshell case.
