The Neumann Miniature Clip Microphone MCM 114 Set Brass/Sax/Uni is a complete clip-on microphone system designed for close miking acoustic instruments in live applications. This set is intended for trumpet, trombone, saxophone and other brass or wind instruments, but it can also be used on percussion instruments and stands thanks to the included MC 6 Universal Clamp Clip.

The system is built around Neumann’s cardioid KK 14 capsule and is designed to deliver a natural, focused and highly detailed sound even in demanding stage environments. Its modular construction makes the system flexible in use and contributes to a lower long-term cost of ownership, since parts can be replaced or adapted for other applications when needed.

Designed for natural close miking in live use

The MCM system is developed to reproduce the characteristic sound of acoustic instruments in live applications with high tonal accuracy. Neumann’s capsule design in the MCM series provides more body in the bass and midrange as well as strong treble transparency, contributing to a more natural result than many traditional electret designs.

KK 14 capsule with cardioid pickup pattern

This set uses the KK 14, a cardioid capsule developed for focused pickup and strong separation from surrounding sound. The capsule is designed to work with both quiet and loud sound sources, making the system suitable for a wide range of stage environments.

With very low self-noise of 23 dBA and a maximum sound pressure level of 153 dB SPL, the KK 14 can handle both nuanced playing and high SPL situations without losing clarity or control.

MC 6 Universal Clamp Clip for flexible mounting

The MCM 114 Set Brass/Sax/Uni includes the MC 6 Universal Clamp Clip, a universal clip designed for mounting on the bell of a trumpet, trombone, saxophone or other horn. It can also be used on percussion instruments and stands, making the system useful in several different types of live production.

The clip is designed for fast, stable and gentle mounting. The gooseneck can be adjusted precisely to aim the capsule at the desired sound source, making positioning easier in both fixed and mobile stage situations.

Modular construction and connection options

A key feature of the MCM system is its modular construction. The capsule, gooseneck, cable, output stage and clip are all separate components, making it easier to adapt the system or replace parts when required.

The system also supports multiple cable options with 3.5 mm jack, Lemo, 4-pin mini-XLR and MicroDot connectors, making it compatible with a range of wireless bodypacks. In this set, the MCM 100 output stage is included for wired operation.
