The Neumann Miniature Clip Microphone MCM 114 Set High Strings is a complete clip-on microphone system designed for close miking acoustic string instruments in live applications. This set is intended for violin, viola, mandolin and similar instruments, combining Neumann’s sound philosophy with a compact format, fast mounting and dependable stage operation.

The system is based on the cardioid KK 14 capsule and is designed to reproduce the natural tone of the instrument with clear balance across body, midrange and treble. Its modular construction also makes the system flexible in use and simplifies servicing, part replacement and long-term ownership.

Designed for natural close miking of acoustic instruments

The MCM system is designed to provide a more natural and neutral result when close miking acoustic instruments in live production. The cardioid capsule is engineered to capture the character of the instrument with high clarity while also helping to control surrounding sound on stage.

Neumann’s capsule design for the MCM series is developed to deliver more body in the bass and midrange as well as greater treble transparency than many traditional electret designs. The result is a close, focused and musical sound that works well in professional PA and monitoring systems.

KK 14 capsule with high dynamic capability

The MCM 114 Set High Strings uses the KK 14, a cardioid capsule with very low self-noise and an extremely high maximum SPL. It is designed to perform equally well on quiet and loud sources, making the system suitable for a wide range of dynamic stage situations.

With 23 dBA self-noise and a maximum sound pressure level of 153 dB SPL, the capsule can handle both nuanced acoustic playing and higher SPL situations without losing control or detail.

Mounting for high string instruments

This version includes the MC 1 Clip High Strings, a clip designed to attach the system’s capsule and gooseneck to the body of a violin, viola, mandolin or similar instrument. The mounting system is designed for quick and stable positioning while remaining gentle on the instrument surface.

The gooseneck construction allows precise aiming towards the sound source, making position refinement easier in live use. The system is designed for fast handling, with mounting often possible using one hand.

Modular design for long-term use

A key part of the MCM system is its modular design. Capsule, gooseneck, cable, output stage and clip are separate components, making it easier to replace parts and adapt the system to other instruments or connection requirements.

The system can be used with various cable options and also works with wireless bodypacks via compatible connectors. In this set, the MCM 100 output stage is included for wired operation.
