A tribute to a legend

The Gibson Brian May SJ-200 12-String celebrates the legendary Queen guitarist and astrophysicist Sir Brian May. Handcrafted by the Gibson Custom Shop in Bozeman, Montana, this limited run consists of only 100 instruments.

Construction and materials

Featuring an AAA Sitka spruce top in Vintage Sunburst and AAA Indian rosewood back and sides, this 12-string SJ-200 delivers rich tone and stunning presence. The two-piece AAA maple neck with walnut stringer and rosewood fingerboard features agoya shell 8-point star inlays – inspired by May’s lifelong passion for astronomy.

Design and details

The headstock displays an agoya 8-point star, the Gibson logo in mother-of-pearl, and gold Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners. The solid rosewood Moustache™ bridge is fitted with four 60s-style agoya inlays, while the custom planet-themed pickguard was designed by Sir Brian May himself.

Tone and electronics

The strings are mounted in reverse order, placing the thicker strings on top for a distinctive sound unlike any other Gibson 12-string. Equipped with Fishman Matrix electronics and soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls, it’s stage- and studio-ready.
