First introduced in 1942, the Gibson J-45 has become one of the most recorded and best-selling acoustic guitars of all time. Handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, the J-45 Special continues the legacy with a slimmer body depth and a smooth satin Wine Red finish.

Construction and materials

The J-45 Special features a round-shoulder body made from solid mahogany with a solid Sitka spruce top, reinforced by traditional scalloped X-bracing. This tonewood pairing delivers a warm, balanced sound with rich dynamics. The slightly thinner “concert depth” body provides a tighter low end and enhanced comfort.

Neck and playability

The utile neck is attached using a compound dovetail joint with hot hide glue. It features a SlimTaper™ profile for a fast, comfortable feel. The rosewood fingerboard with a 12" radius and mother-of-pearl dot inlays offers classic Gibson playability.

Electronics and hardware

Equipped with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze undersaddle pickup and soundhole-mounted volume control, the J-45 Special is ready for stage or studio. Grover Rotomatic tuners, a rosewood belly-up bridge, and TUSQ nut and saddle ensure reliable performance. Includes a premium soft shell case.
