Gibson 1929 Nick Lucas Special Light Aged Argentine Grey
A vintage icon reborn
The Gibson 1929 Nick Lucas Special Light Aged pays tribute to Gibson’s first-ever artist signature model — designed for vaudeville star and jazz pioneer Nick Lucas. Known for its unusually deep body and powerful tone, the Nick Lucas Special became legendary for delivering a big, resonant sound from a small-bodied guitar.
Construction and materials
Featuring an L-00–style body that’s significantly deeper than standard, the guitar combines a thermally aged red spruce top with mahogany back and sides. Traditional scalloped X-bracing and hide glue construction ensure superb resonance. Gold sparkle multi-ply binding and an L-2–style rosette highlight the period-correct detailing.
Neck and playability
The mahogany neck joins the body at the 12th fret and has a comfortable C-shaped profile. The bound rosewood fingerboard features 20 frets and exquisite engraved mother-of-pearl Nick Lucas inlays.
Hardware and details
A rosewood open-slot rectangular bridge with a bone saddle pairs beautifully with gold Waverly tuners featuring ivoroid oval buttons. The headstock is adorned with “The Gibson” pearl logo, completing the vintage aesthetic.
Finish and case
The Argentine Grey finish is lightly aged by the Murphy Lab to capture the look and feel of a well-preserved pre-war original. Includes a period-correct red line hardshell case.
